FLA cornerback heading north?
Tampa (FL) Tampa Catholic cornerback Jeremi Wilkes has eight offers right now from the likes of Florida State, Iowa, Louisville, and Syracuse. Recently the prospect talked with CuseConfidential.com about what he likes about the Orange.
"I like them it is a good school that is on my mind. I plan to take a visit up there sometime this season."
Wilkes, 5-foot-9, 180 pounds was offered by the Orange last spring and he has learned a lot about the Orange. The coaches have shown Wilkes a lot over the past months and that is one reason he wants to visit Syracuse.
"I have actually learned a lot from talking with the coaches they have been enlightening me about different part of the school and different facts about the school. It has really made me want to go up and see it in detail and get an impression for what it is all about."
When it comes to the recruitment of the Sunshine State product Syracuse has involved a few coaches to go after him. It does not seem to matter who he talks with from the Orange because he likes all of the coaches he has talked with.
"My relationships with the Syracuse coaches is good we talk all the time and we talk about games and not just football. It is a good relationship."
The two star prospect is the top defensive back on his team and the Orange would like to see him at cornerback.
"Syracuse is looking for me at corner. They said that they really like my technique, style of play, I show leadership on my team, and I don't take plays off."
Right now the Orange are not off to the start that they wanted, however Wilkes is encouraged by what he sees.
"I know that they started off slow, but I really think they are getting better and they just have to keep going."
Other than Syracuse Wilkes is being looked at by a bunch or programs, so does he have a leader t this point?
"Right now everybody is still in the middle and I am not going to make a decision until I take all of my visits. Right now all options are open."
Despite not being able to name favorites at this point Wilkes is working on scheduling a trip Syracuse. The date may not be set at the moment, but it is close to being set.
"We are still working on a date, but I know my visit to Syracuse is going to be sometime in November."
A decision will not be coming anytime soon for Wilkes as he plans to take more visits than just his trip to Syracuse.
"The day I make a decision is going to be after all of my official visits. It will probably be in December."
Before Wilkes can think of what college he is going to attend he has his own season to finish. Wilkes and his Tampa Catholic squad are off to a nice start and looking for improvement as the season goes on.
"Right now we are 5-0 and we are just trying to step our game up for playoffs. I have two interceptions, and about 18 tackles."
