Where there is a Hill, there is a way
For a short while on Friday night it looked like Nick Hill's prolific career at Chelsea High School was going to come to an abrupt end. However, late in the game Hill once again showed why he is one of the most dynamic running backs in Michigan High School history and the Chelsea Bulldogs mounted an impressive comeback.
With the Bulldogs trailing Carleton Airport High School by a score of 21-7 mid-way through the fourth quarter, Hill ripped off several key runs, including a 6-yard touchdown, to allow the Bulldogs to pull within 7. The Chelsea defense then did their part by getting the ball back for Hill and teh offense with a little over 2 minutes left.
Chelsea's offense did not need that long as it only took Hill 18 seconds to cover 88-yards on two runs, including a 56-yard touchdown jaunt to tie the game at 21.
The game ended deadlocked at 21 and the two teams went to overtime. After the Chelsea defense was able to keep Carelton Airport out of the end zone, Hill once again ran two plays to set up the game winning field goal on 3rd down from the 4-yard line. Charlie Hess' kick was good and Chelsea prevailed 24-21.
Hill ended the game with 254-yards in 36 carries and scored all three Chelsea touchdowns. For the season Hill now has rushed for over 1800-yards and scored 30 touchdowns. SpartanMag.com's unofficial stats have him with 1809 on 206 for an average of 8.8 yards per carry. Hill now has 6237 career rushing yards and has scored 91 touchdowns.
The win sets up a rematch against Adrian High School. The Maples are one of only 2 teams that defeated Chelsea this year and the rival schools have had some epic battles the past few years. Earlier this year Adrian defeated Chelsea 25-22 in a classic battle. In that game Hill, who had 224-yarsd on 37 carries, but fumbled on the Adrian 3-yard line.
Hill is looking forward to getting a shot at continuing his prep career on more week, and the opportunity for a rematch against Adrian High couldn't be more appropriate.
