Second chance to make a lasting impression
Devin Gardner has already put together one of the great prep careers in Michigan football history as Inkster's quarterback, but there is one highly desirable piece of his resume as yet unresolved: a state title. On Friday, Gardner will get his second and final shot at achieving that career capping moment.
Gardner and his Inkster teammates had a shot at the Division 3 state title last year, taking their 12-1 record up against West Michigan powerhouse East Grand Rapids that had won four of the previous six state championships in that division. The Pioneers made it five out of seven with a 43-24 win over Inkster, and left a bad taste in Gardner's mouth that still has not dissolved.
