Four-star cornerback eager to check out Ole Miss
El Camino (Calif.) Community College four-star cornerback Mike Harris, as was first reported on RebelSports.net several weeks ago, will be making his second official visit of the fall this weekend when he travels to Oxford, Miss., to check out Houston Nutt's Rebels.
The Miami native visited Alabama in October and continues to list the Crimson Tide as his clear-cut leader. Harris had scheduled an official visit to Auburn last weekend for the Tigers' annual Iron Bowl clash with Alabama. However, Auburn "decided not to bring me out because I wouldn't be done in December," Harris said Tuesday. "They wanted to focus on their mid-year recruits."
Ole Miss is looking to add two more cornerbacks to its 2010 signing class. The Rebels would like to sign a high school player and a older, game-ready cornerback to come in and compete for immediate playing time. Harris, a 6-foot, 185-pounder, is one of two Rebel targets _ along with Copiah-Lincoln (Miss.) Community College cornerback Dequan Menzie _ who fit that description.
"I have a good relationship with Ole Miss," Harris said. "I spoke with (Ole Miss recruiting coordinator/cornerbacks) Coach (Chris) Vaughn and the defensive coordinator (Tyrone Nix) the other day. I talk to Coach Vaughn all the time. My interest level is still pretty high. Coach Vaughn has been doing a good job of letting me know how things go down there. I'm just really looking forward to getting down there and taking a look for myself."
Harris said he'll have to return to El Camino after the Christmas holidays to finish a course. He hopes to be done, he said, sometime in February. In the meantime, Harris has also started to talk to Florida State, a relationship that he said won't be affected one way or the other by Tuesday's news that legendary Seminoles coach Bobby Bowden will retire after Florida State's bowl appearance later this month or in early January.
"Right now, I'm just talking to them and trying to get down there for a visit," Harris said.
Other expected official visitors at Ole Miss this weekend include Menzie and his Co-Lin teammate, defensive tackle Josh Tillman; Hargrave (Va.) Military Academy offensive tackle Terrance Hackney; and Coffeyville (Kan.) Community College tight end Brandon Mosley.
