Happy with a thrilling Outback Bowl victory? Yes. Happy to send Auburn's 14 seniors out with a win? Yes.

Willing to look past 12 penalties including several personal fouls and critical mistakes? Not even close.

Auburn head coach Gene Chizik was thrilled with Friday's hard-fought victory over Northwestern and finishing his first season on the Plains with an 8-5 record but was not happy with some aspects of the win.

Cornerback Walt McFadden was called for a celebration penalty when he high-stepped at the end of an 100-yard interception return for a touchdown. After Ben Tate ran for a 7-yard touchdown to put AU up 35-21 in the fourth quarter, he dunked the ball over the crossbar costing AU another 15-yard penalty.

Northwestern was able to start its next drive at its 42-yard line and score 15 plays later.

Both McFadden and Tate are seniors.

"I was disappointed in some things we did as a football team that were uncharacteristic of what we stand for," Chizik said. "We had some personal fouls out there that were absolutely, 100 percent uncalled for. I don't like it. I don't like anything about it."
