Donnal enjoying All American experience
Four-star offensive lineman Andrew Donnal loves to compete. This week, practicing for the U.S. Army All-American Game, the 6-foot-7, 285-pounder has had a chance to go up against some of the best high school players in the nation and says he knows he will be better because of it. Donnal talks about his experience in San Antonio this week, the upcoming game tomorrow, and much more.
Q: What has the week been like for you so far leading up to the game tomorrow?
DONNAL: It's been good. We've been pretty busy, but it's been fun. Since Monday, we've had two-a-day practices where we go 10 AM to 3 PM with lunch in the middle. We do that and then we come back to the hotel and have dinner. We had dinner in the Tower of Americas. It kind of looks like the Space Needle and we had dinner up there, so that was pretty neat. We visited the Alamo Dome and scrimmaged and had lunch there one day. Then we've had different speakers talk to us about every day also. We were free some today, so I went and saw the Alamo. It was cool.
Q: What was it like checking in and getting to know some of your teammates for the first time?
DONNAL: It was fun just getting to know all of the guys that I've seen or heard about through the recruiting process. We've gotten to know each other pretty well this week. It's been fun.
Q: Have you been able to spend some time with your future teammates, A.J. and C.J.?
DONNAL: Yeah, we've spent quite a bit of time together. We watched the Iowa game together at Dave & Buster's the other night. That was a lot fun.
Q: What was that like for you guys watching that game now that you're only a few months away from being there?
DONNAL: It's exciting just watching the game and knowing that you're going to be in that position someday hopefully. It's a good feeling to know that you're going there and to see them succeed.
The U.S. Army All-American Game kicks off at 12 PM Central on NBC this Saturday, January 9.
