Morris gets to know future teammates
James Morris has grown up around the Iowa Football program, so the only difference this weekend on his official visit was that the Hawkeyes were picking up the first of what will be many checks for his meals. The senior linebacker from Solon didn't expect to learn a whole lot about the program, but he did get a lot out of the time he was able to spend with his future teammates at Iowa.
"It was actually a lot of fun. More fun than I actually expected. The day time stuff was all the same stuff that I have seen a lot already being around the program, but the fun part was hanging out with the guys and getting to know them better," Morris said.
The 6-foot-2 and 215 pound linebacker had the opportunity to spend more time with his fellow incoming recruits and gave all of the future Hawkeye rave reviews.
"I feel like all of the guys that are here are really nice guys," he said. "They are all good guys who want to be here and most importantly they want to work when they get here. I was hoping to see that and I did."
Morris was hosted this weekend by redshirt freshman Casey Krieter and he also spent much of his time with his fellow incoming linebacker recruit, Austin Gray. He also spent time with his future position coach, Darrell Wilson, who walked him through the depth chart and indicated that his actual position for the Hawkeyes might be changing.
"We mainly talked about depth chart stuff and how I would fit in," Morris said. "Originally they were talking about Will side linebacker for me, but Coach Wilson said that they are going to wait until camp with me now because he could see me playing LEO or Will. I'm cool with wherever they put me."
After completing his outstanding high school football career, which included three straight state titles and back to back Gatorade Player of the Year honors, Morris is spending his time on the wrestling mat this winter. He is currently undefeated at 215 pounds and is looking forward to the district and state meets which are coming up in the next month.
