Oyedeji leading Bellaire toward playoffs
Houston Bellaire has been in this position before. For the past few years, the Cardinals have been one of the most talented basketball teams in the state of Texas. All one has to do is look at the roster and see the number of players who have either signed or committed with Division I college programs to know that.
But Bellaire hasn't made it to Austin and the state championship round. Actually the Cardinals haven't even gotten close. A year ago Bellaire was upset in the first round, but with a roster now loaded with seniors a different outcome may be in the cards.
Bellaire is ranked No. 1 in the latest THSCA 5A state ranking, and the Cardinals are making mince meat out of District 20-5A. In working out a 6-0 district record, Bellaire's average margin of victory is an astounding 46 points.
Part of the reason for Bellaire's improvement is 6-foot-9, 210-pound senior forward Tobi Oyedeji who has seen his scoring soar to 16 points per game. The Rivals.com four-star prospect signed a Letter-of-Intent with Texas A&M over scholarship offers from Arizona State, Baylor, Georgia Tech, Louisville, LSU, Marquette and Oklahoma.
