Bulldogs reclaim first place with OT win
Mississippi State reclaimed first place in the SEC Western Division in dramatic fashion on Saturday.
The Bulldogs battled to beat Auburn 85-75 in overtime at Humphrey Coliseum to once again earn top billing in the division. MSU outscored the Tigers 11-1 in the overtime period to improve to 6-4 inside the league and 18-7 overall.
"It kind of happened the way we anticipated," said MSU head coach Rick Stansbury. "We knew coming off a big, emotional game against Ole Miss with a quick turnaround and this game sandwiched where its at, if you are not at your best you get beat. It's very obvious early in this game all of that was where it was at. We weren't at that emotional level that we needed to be at but to our kids credit they found a way."
The Bulldogs shot 41.4-percent for the night led by a career-high 32 points by Dee Bost. Bost shot 11-of-19 from the floor including seven 3-pointers.
"I've been working on my shot and spending a lot of time on my shot," Bost said. "Everybody has been trying to find their shot. It just took some work but I guess I finally found it and started scoring."
Barry Stewart scored 12 points while Jarvis Varnado notched his fifth straight double-double with 10 points, 12 rebounds and also added five blocks.
