Big numbers drawing big interest for Alabama back
For two seasons, DaMarcus James has posted gaudy numbers at Class 5A Demopolis (Ala.) High School.
After helping his team win the state championship last December, the recruiting interest has predictably followed suit.
The 5-foot-9, 215-pound James has begun to pick up interest from Alabama, Auburn, Mississippi State, Vanderbilt and Georgia Tech. Ole Miss is in that mix as well, and James reciprocated the Rebels' interest last weekend with a trip to a junior day in Oxford.
"It was good," James said. "I like the way their offense is put together. They were telling me how they run their backs. I like how they use their backs in so much of the offense."
Ole Miss hasn't offered James yet, but the Rebels told him they would love for him to attend a football camp in the summer, giving both sides a better chance to get to know one another. James, who will participate in the NIKE Camp in Tuscaloosa, Ala., next month, didn't commit to a return trip to Oxford, but he said Monday night it's something he hopes to do.
"I wouldn't mind going," James said. "I liked what I saw."
Ole Miss and other schools certainly like what James has produced on the prep fields in Alabama the past two seasons. As a sophomore, James rushed 199 times for 1,652 yards and 23 touchdowns. He followed that up with a strong junior campaign. James rushed 350 times for 2,523 yards and 19 touchdowns, adding three receptions out of the backfield.
James, who said he's "pretty wide open" regarding favorites, has a 3.0 grade-point average and a 16 on the ACT.
