Memphis' Jones riding a hot streak

VolQuest.com Memphis has a well-earned reputation as a hotbed for hoops talent, a reputation that has been on full display this week as high-school basketball moves deep into the postseason portion of the schedule. Melrose point guard and Tennessee commitment Chris Jones made sure his team's march towards a possible state title stayed on track with a stupendous week on the hardwood.
On Tuesday night Jones scored 35 points to lead Melrose to a regional semi-final wind over a loaded Southwind team. He was even better in the championship game on Thursday, dropping 42 points on White Station and five-star point guard Joe Jackson in an 83-60 romp for Melrose.
A member of the 2011 recruiting class, the only downside for Tennessee with Jones is having to wait more than a year to get him on the roster.
An electric scorer with eye-popping quickness, Jones looks like a picture-perfect fit for Bruce Pearl's preferred up-tempo style of play. A scoring point-guard with a complete arsenal of offensive skills, Jones has the potential to be a high-impact freshman, particularly if he continues to develop in the last year like he has in this past one.
