Bulldogs hold first full pad practice
Mississippi State donned full gear for the first time Saturday and ended the session with a bit of a scrimmage.
While head coach Dan Mullen was not completely happy with all of the execution, he left the practice fields pleased the level of effort and excitement he saw from his squad on their first day of full contact.
"The effort and excitement, you see that a lot of times when you get in the first day of pads," Mullen said. "What I was happy to see is the excitement of guys wanting to go hit each other and go play with that effort and play the game a little bit. But because of that we got a little sloppy with all of our other execution."
One area that Mullen saw improvement in from last spring was along the defensive front. Josh Boyd, Fletcher Cox, Johnathan McKenzie, and James Carmon are all going through their first spring.
"The defensive line really came off the ball a bunch today," Mullen said. "We have a lot more size on the d-line obviously than we had this time last year. Guys are popping and guys are hitting, we've just got to be cleaner executing."
The Bulldogs are adjusting the linebackers to replace standout Jamar Chaney. Rising senior Chris White started every game at outside linebacker but will move inside in 2010.
