Manziel feels comfortable in leadership role
Even from a young age, quarterback Johnny Manziel has always approached sports from a leadership perspective - rather than trying to find a way to simply contribute, he has always looked for a way to take the reins and will his team to victory. After playing a supplementary role as a sophomore and finishing second on the team in both passing and rushing, he was finally given the chance to do just that as a junior.
"Ever since I was a kid, I felt like I would be the leader of whatever team I'm on - the guy who is happy to carry the load," Manziel said. "That's just how it has always been. Now that I'm on a bigger level, it's a bigger deal and I'm sure in college it will be even bigger. I just have to make sure it's the same way at every level of the game."
While at the helm, though, Manziel and the Fighting Antlers started off the year with three straight losses before finally finding their groove and blazing their way to a 5A state semi-finals finish.
