Thourogood is set to take unofficials
Athlete Lafonte Thourogood is expected to have a busy spring ahead. The 6-foot-3, 224-pounder plans to make his way to a handful of schools in the coming weeks on unofficial visits.
"I'm going to North Carolina on April 10th," he said. "I plan to go to spring games at Virginia Tech, Duke and I believe Tennessee also."
With plenty of trips coming up, what does Thourogood want to see on his visits?
"I just want to see how the players react to the coaches and how they interact together on the field," he said. "If a player messes up, I want to know how they talk to him or not."
The Virginia Beach (Va.) Ocean Lakes prospect claims no favorites at this point, but clearly Tech is in solid position at this point in time.
"At the beginning I thought it would be easy, but now I don't have a top anymore," he said. "Virginia Tech is high on my list.
"I talk to Tyrod Taylor. He isn't telling me to go to Virginia Tech. He tells me to go wherever it fits my type of play and when I look at Virginia Tech it fits."
What fits with the Hokies?
"I like the quarterback position there. They let them run and throw. They don't try to push them to be just a passing quarterback."
Thourogood went further about the Hokies including his trip for Tech's junior day a few weeks back.
"It was a good junior day and I enjoyed hanging out with the coaches and players," he said. "That visit pulled me closer to thinking about Virginia Tech and it was a pretty good experience."
According to Thourogood all the schools pursuing him are eyeing him as a quarterback now.
Thourogood plans a return visit to Virginia Tech for the Nike Camp in May as well.
In the meantime, the Commonwealth prospect is improving his times running track.
"I'm doing pretty good. Last week I placed first in the 100 and 4x1 in a local track meet."
