Moore proving his athletic prowess
The decathlon is the ultimate event in track and field - a grueling two-day affair with ten separate disciplines ranging from sprints to throwing the shot put. However, it has declined in importance, at least at the high school level, due to the amount of practice time involved a well as the fact that many high school meets are only one day in length. As a result, it keeps someone like Rowlett's Damontre Moore from an opportunity to show off what he can really do.
The 6-foot-6, 240-pound Moore played defensive end last season for the Eagle football team and signed with Texas A&M to continue his career there. However, he is also athletic enough to play basketball and compete in multiple events in track. In past years, Moore has high jumped - his best this year is 6-foot-4 - but this year he has started throwing the shot and discus and has even moved into the sprints.
