Shinn talks Tide camp
In addition to hosting some of the nation's top uncommitted recruits at their first camp of the summer earlier this week, the Alabama Crimson Tide also played host to several of their top commits for the Class of 2011, including Vigor wide receiver Marvin Shinn. The 6-foot-3, 177-pound Rivals250 member reportedly made an impressive showing at the three-day event and came away feeling good about his experience.
"I was there for the whole camp, all three days. It was a really great experience," Shinn said. "I'm glad I came and stayed for the whole event because I felt like I learned more and got better each day of the camp."
"A lot of the drills we did were things that I will probably try and do regularly from now on. They are just things that help make you a better player little by little and I'm all about doing whatever I can to improve."
Shinn, rated the nation's No. 9 wide receiver prospect, said he particularly enjoyed the position-specific work during the camp when he got a chance to work with Tide wide receivers coach Curt Cignetti.
"When we broke up into groups, I worked with Coach Cignetti. He's a really smart guy and he taught me so much about playing the position just in the short time I got to work with him. A lot of it was just little technique things that don't seem like much but when you put them all together it makes a big difference and can really give you an advantage during a game."
In addition to learning and practicing useful drills, the camp also included some competitions, both of which Shinn's Vigor team excelled in.
"Most of the last day of the camp was about competition. Me and some of my teammates from Vigor played together in the 7-on-7 competition and did pretty well but where we really played great was the "Bama Ball" game. Our team won the tournament and we had a really great time showing what kind of players we are."
Another Mobile-area Tide commit was also in attendance and worked alongside Shinn during position drills.
"I didn't meet a whole lot of new guys but I did get a chance to hang out with Danny Woodson. Danny and me are pretty tight. He did a great job at the camp. It's going to be fun playing alongside him. He's got great size and speed as well."
Shinn is rated the No. 119 overall prospect in the nation and boasts a 4.49 forty time and a 35-inch vertical.
