Newcomer gives Huskies baggage, versatility on defense
To give this recent development for the Huskies a little context, three months ago, coach Steve Sarkisian and Company were gushing about the prospect of getting another defensive end, even if he hadn't played a football game in half a decade.
Then Clarence Trent decided to quit after four spring practices and the Huskies' brass were once again desperate for help. Well Christmas came early for the Dawgs on Thursday in the form of linebacker/defensive end Josh Shirley, who signed a financial aid letter. Once a commitment to UCLA, Shirley was arrested in connection with a purse snatching a month ago. Bruins coach Rick Neuheisel dismissed the four-star recruit, saying that he could have the chance to redeem himself in January.
