Injury will cost starter time
Senior linebacker Akeem Dent will miss an undetermined amount of time with an apparent broken toe, UGASports has learned.
Dent suffered the injury Monday afternoon.
The 6-foot-2, 234-pounder was being fitted with a walking boot.
Dent, who was slated to open the season as the starter at Moe linebacker in Todd Grantham's 3-4 scheme, the Atlanta native is coming off a year in which he collected 32 tackles.
If Dent has to miss any games, look for the Bulldogs to turn to junior Marcus Dowtin to team with Mike starter Christian Robinson. Sophomore Mike Gilliard (seven tackles in 2009) will also figure into the mix, as could Richard Samuel, who was moved to inside linebacker from running back.
There's also the possibility that senior Darryl Gamble could be moved back from outside linebacker after playing on the inside for much of the spring.
