Overstreet making his own path
Jalen Overstreet has been known as a standout athlete around Tatum, Texas for quite some time now. The Overstreet name carries its own tradition, as his father Anthony Overstreet starred at Tatum and Baylor and his uncle Stephen Hodge played at Tatum, TCU, and with the Dallas Cowboys. He is proud of that standard of excellence but at the same time has always tried to make his own path.
"They had some pretty big shoes to fill in Tatum and really I was just trying to make a name for myself, as my own person," Overstreet said. "I didn't really want to be compared to the way my uncle or dad played, I wanted to be known on how I played."
The 6-2, 208-pound Overstreet played both safety and receiver as a sophomore, and was named second-team all-district for his efforts on offense. As he entered offseason in 2010 he knew he would need to make some changes to his game though and immediately went to work.
