After excelling on both sides of the ball in 2010 at Boardman High School in Youngstown, junior Dayne Hammond has drawn attention from major college football programs across the nation.

Last week, the 6-foot-6, 175-pound wide receiver prospect added a verbal scholarship offer from Toledo to go along with the ones from Ball State and Youngstown State he previously collected. He's also heard from several major college programs.

"I get a lot of stuff from Oregon and Wisconsin. Those are my two favorites," Hammond said. "My coach told me Ohio State should be coming to visit real soon and Michigan State and Michigan have visited."

During the season, Hammond made an unofficial visit to Wisconsin, where his brother Chase is a freshman.

"I love the school, the campus and the coaches," Hammond said. "Basically, ever since Chase got offered they have showed interest and tell Chase to invite me up and check them out and they are suppose to come to my school this week."

Hammond hears nothing but positive things about Wisconsin from his brother.

"He loves it he told me a couple days ago that he's never coming home," Hammond said.

Ohio State also ranks near the top of Hammond's early list of favorites.

"I love Ohio State," he said. "They would be listed in my top five favorites. I feel like they are interested. "(Jim) Tressel told my coach he wants to come visit me but I haven't did much talking to them."

As a junior, Hammond caught 54 passes for over 700 yards and nine touchdowns. He added 72 tackles and five interceptions from his defensive back positions.

"I feel like one of my major strengths is my height," he said.

Despite his success on defense, most schools have recruited Hammond to play wide receiver.
