Illinois OL rates Michigan State visit high
This past weekend Michigan State hosted offensive line prospect Peyton Eckert of Mount Prospect High School in Illinois on an official visit. SpartanMag.com was able to catch up with the 6-foot-5, 300-pound recruit and get the details on his time in East Lansing.
Eckert is a prospect that is seeing his recruiting stock rise as signing day approaches. Much of that is due to him adding 40-pounds of quality weight in the past year and having a strong senior season. Heading into his official visit with the Spartans, Eckert held scholarship offers from UConn, Western Michigan, Central Michigan and Eastern Illinois.
SpartanMag.com asked him about his time at Michigan State.
"The visit was great," Eckert stated. "I really enjoyed my time there. I could definitely see myself going to Michigan State University. I flew up Friday afternoon and then my mom drove up Friday after work. I was able to tour the facilities, talk with the coaches and learn about the school. Skyler Schofner was my player host."
Eckert came to East Lansing without a scholarship offer. We asked him if the Spartan staff talked about offering him and what they like about him as a player.
"Yes, we talked about that," he said. "Coach Roushar said that they have two guys that they have offered that are in front of me. They said they hope to know whether or not they will offer me by the end of the week. Coach Dantonio and Coach Roushar said they really like my balance and my ability to change direction for someone my size. They said I move my feet well."
The Spartans are not the only Big Ten team that is still looking at Eckert. In addition, despite a coaching change at Connecticut, the Huskies are still recruiting him.
"I do not have a visit set up for the coming weekend, but Coach Bostad of Wisconsin is supposed to come by my school early this week and meet with me. I am also supposed to meet with Coach Pasqualoni as well."
One aspect that Eckert also enjoyed about his visit to Michigan State was learning more about the academic opportunities that would be afforded to him.
"I was able to meet with one of the accounting professors," Eckert said. "I think I would like to major in either business or marketing so that was good to learn about."
Eckert indicated that he would like to make his decision as soon as possible. With that said, he plans on waiting to see what happens with Michigan State, Wisconsin and Connecticut this week before he makes the call.
If Eckert takes a visit to Wisconsin that would push his timetable back a little. He also wants to see if the Spartans have a scholarship and how he gets along with Coach Pasqualoni.
SpartanMag.com will be sure to keep in contact with Eckert over the next 7 days.
