Bellard decides A&M's for him
After visiting Texas A&M last weekend for junior day and picking up a scholarship offer, Brenham offensive lineman Adrian Bellard had a pretty good idea of where he wanted to play college football. But the plan was to wait until March and make a decision then.
Scratch that idea.
Bellard joined fellow Cub Troy Green as 2012 Texas A&M commits Tuesday night, with both calling the Aggie coaching staff and announcing their decision. Bellard said the good feelings he had from Saturday just helped him pull the trigger.
"I've been thinking about it and thinking about it and finally, I just decided I needed to do it," he said. "I called over and talked to coach (Terrell) Williams first and he was really surprised. But I wasn't the first Brenham guy to call today; Troy did and so did Brandon Alexander."
Bellard said there were a lot of things that were working in A&M's favor.
"I was looking for a place where I felt comfortable and I was really comfortable there," he said. "And they have great academics, and that was an important thing to me too."
Bellard said the Aggies' head coach also played a role in his decision.
"Coach Sherman used to be an offensive line guy, and I like that," he said. "I know those guys can help me develop and become the best player I can."
With Green and Bellard under wraps, the Aggies have two of Brenham's Big Four under wraps. What about the other two?
"I think Tim Cole is getting near committing; he's been talking like that," Bellard said. "And Malcom, that's all he talks about: A&M, A&M, A&M."
It could be that the Big Four might be changing uniform colors and not teammates in 2012.
