Linebacker grabs Orange offer
After the season ended Syracuse lost two starting linebackers to graduation and one backup linebacker to an off field issue making linebacker a position of need for Syracuse. With that being the case Syracuse is looking at a big linebacker out of Michigan named Royce Jenkins-Stone.
Jenkins-Stone, 6-foot-2, 215 pounds was offered recently by the Orange and it was a bit of a surprise to him.
"Syracuse offered me a scholarship a week ago actually," Jenkins-Stone said. "I did not think I was going to get it that early, but I was happy that I finally got an offer from Syracuse so it felt good."
The Detroit, Michigan prospect has been in contact with Syracuse over the past few months, but in his conversation with Tyrone Wheatley he did not get the vibe that an offer would arrive quickly.
"I have talked with Coach Wheatley a couple times, it wasn't for that long. I did not know if they were going to offer so I wasn't sure."
"I really do not know much about Syracuse right now, but I do plan on visiting them and seeing what they have to offer."
Even though he did have talks with Syracuse coaches he still does not know much about the Orange, but he is planning a visit soon.
"I really do not know much about Syracuse right now, but I do plan on visiting them and seeing what they have to offer," Jenkins-Stone stated. "I think I am supposed to be going to see them in the spring."
Other than Syracuse there are a few other schools he plans to visit in the coming months.
"Right now I am set up to go to Oklahoma, Notre Dame, and Nebraska."
Oklahoma was the last offer he received and that was a school that caught his eye as well.
"Oklahoma was my most recent offer. I think it's a good school and they have a lot of good publicity. They are a good school to consider."
Out of the schools that have offered him linebacker is the position coaches want him to play, Even though the coaches want linebacker this prospect is ready to play wherever he is needed.
"Schools are looking for me to play linebacker, but I don't really have a preference where I play. I am just trying to get onto the field," Jenkins-Stone added. "I play at a high level and everybody expects me to play at a high level. I can move from sideline to sideline, I'm good with my hands and feet."
Early on in the recruiting process many prospect have not even thought about a decision, but in this case Jenkins-Stone as thought about a commitment time.
"I will probably commit before the season or a few games into the season."
