DB Smith has an open mind
The recruiting picture has changed dramatically over the past month for Pennsylvania safety Nate Smith.
Smith picked up a very early verbal offer from South Carolina when he was a sophomore and he was sitting on that for a while, waiting to see what else might come along.
More recently he has picked up offers from West Virginia and Toledo, with other schools showing serious interest.
The 5-foot-11, 176-pound prospect is being recruited exclusively as a safety by all of the schools interested in him. He claims no favorite at the present date.
Smith recently took visits to Pitt, West Virginia and Virginia Tech. He gave all of those trips positive reviews and now that he has the benefit of some hindsight he still feels good about all of those visits.
"Pitt went good," Smith recalled. "I was just there to see how everything was. I liked the whole school. Everything stood out.
"Virginia Tech went good, too. I got to watch them scrimmage. I really liked touring the campus and seeing how that was. Everything was great.
"West Virginia was also good. I liked all the facilities and the weight room. They talked about academics and everything else. I got to talk to everybody."
When asked if any of those trips stood out Smith replied, "All of them did."
The Warminster (Pa.) Archbishop Wood Catholic prospect doesn't have any other visit plans for the immediate future.
On Wednesday night Smith said he doesn't plan on making a decision anytime soon.
