Smith sets date, still undecided
The date has been set for Geno Smith to make his decision, but that doesn't mean the Rivals 100 defensive back knows where he's going to school yet.
"It's still up in the air," Smith said. "I'm 50-50 between the two schools (Alabama and Auburn)."
Smith, who wants to get his decision out of the way before his first game, will choose between the Crimson Tide and the Tigers on Wednesday, Aug. 17 at a press conference in his high school, St. Pius X, in Atlanta.
"They're both very similar in what they offer as far as football," Smith said. "Alabama has a great broadcast school. Auburn has great academics. Coach (Gene) Chizik and Coach (Nick) Saban are both similar as far as experience in coaching defense and defensive backs. I really like both coaching staffs, and I'm very comfortable at both schools."
The Atlanta native visited Auburn in May for the Tigers' Big Cat Weekend, and he recently made a trip to Tuscaloosa with his family, his final stop before the announcement. Now all that's left for the elite cornerback is a decision.
"It's going to be really tough to decide," Smith said. "I'm just going to have to have that feeling in my heart of where I want to go and where I want to be for the next four to five years. I'm just going to keep praying about it and keep working hard. Everything will take care of itself."
In a growing trend, Smith has used Twitter as a way to interact with the fans and keep them guessing about where he's going to school.
"Sometimes they take it the wrong way," Smith said. "The other day I was just tweeting about the top 10 college sayings. It's just entertaining. I think it's pretty cool how the fans at each school appreciate their school and how they love football at their school."
The St. Pius X star started fall practice Monday and is looking to win a state championship this year with the Golden Lions.
