Eain Smith elected to have offseason shoulder surgery in January to repair a torn labrum that he had been plaguing him for a couple seasons, but with the surgery came the realization that he wouldn't be able to participate in spring drills.

The decision to have the surgery came after fighting through a torn labrum he injured during the 2009 campaign.
