SU offers Charlton early
Pickerington (Ohio) Central junior defensive lineman Taco Charlton has the potential to be one of the top defensive end prospects in the country. He recently grabbed some new offers and one of them came from Syracuse.
"I was real happy when I first got the offer from Syracuse I thought it was a real good offer to get," Charlton said. "I think Syracuse is a great school for football and a good atmosphere to be in."
Charlton, 6-foot-6, 240 pounds like most Midwestern recruits is being looked after by Tyrone Wheatley for the Orange.
"I've talked to Coach Wheatley and when we talk we just talked about the football program and some other things."
As it stands so early in the process for Charlton he is unaware of what Syracuse has to offer, but there are a couple items that have caught his eye.
"When I first think of Syracuse I think of the great basketball teams they have had. When I first hear about their football program I think about the dome they get to play in and how they're football team is improving each year."
Distance is a hindrance right now, but a trip to Syracuse for Charlton sounds like it will be on his list of trips to take.
"I haven't taken a visit yet and with Syracuse being so far it would be kind of hard to take a visit with the season still going on and everything. In the future I may just want to see the whole atmosphere."
Right now the Orange are losing some defensive ends, so Charlton would be a huge get for the Orange. The Ohio product also thinks that he can help out the Orange in a big way.
"If I picked the Orange I think I could definitely help the program turn into a winning one and become a dominant force."
Besides Syracuse there are a lot of big schools that have come calling and he has recently been able to take trips to those schools.
"I've visited Michigan, Notre Dame, and Ohio State so far this season and they all were great trips and great games. I really liked them a lot."
Even with a solid offer list and early interest from other schools Charlton does not have any early leaders.
"Right now I don't have any favorite teams just yet, maybe in the near future."
Since it is so early in the recruiting process Charlton does not have a set date for a decision.
"When I make my final decision isn't set just yet, I don't know if I will wait it out or commit early. I haven't really thought about it too much but I will after the season."
