Recruitment picks up for Brown
Durham (NC) Jordan junior running back John Brown hopes to make a name for himself this offseason.
The 2013 prospect will travel to San Antonio next month to participate in the U.S. Army National Combine.
"Right now I'm working out and training," Brown said.
It was a difficult season for Brown and his teammates, as Jordan struggled to finish 3-8.
"We had a young team, so we were rebuilding," Brown said. "Most of our line should come back next year, so next year should be a better year."
Brown still managed to gain 860 yards on the ground despite the inexperience up front. He also attracted more attention from college coaches, especially throughout the state.
"I have a few schools looking at me right now, Wake Forest, N.C. State, Duke and Carolina are the main ones right now," Brown said.
The Durham product said he does not have a front-runner.
Steve Russ is recruiting him for the Demon Deacons.
"He talked to me a little bit near the end of our season, and he sent me a few letters, asking me to come up for a game," Brown said. "I went up to one of their games when they played Virginia Tech. I enjoyed the visit a lot."
Brown said he needs to learn more about new North Carolina head football coach Larry Fedora.
He added that N.C. State assistant coach Everette Sands paid him a visit Tuesday.
"He asked me if I was going to run track this year, if I had any track background and that he wanted to see more film on me, so I e-mailed him my highlights," Brown said.
Brown still has not made a trip to East Carolina, but did visit Elon and Appalachian State most recently this fall.
"It was a lot different being in the hills [at Appalachian State], but I still liked the visit and the atmosphere of the campus," Brown said.
His goals are to improve his elusiveness and techniques as a player this offseason and upcoming year.
