Army commit, McBryde excited after official visit
The December 2nd weekend kicked off the Black Knights' official visit schedule that saw Adam Bungum, Brandon Dewitt, Stefan Moreau, T.J. Schierber and Army commit, Sean McBryde.
For McBryde, he headed to his official visit to West Point without the typical stress that some prospect have as they embark on the official visit season. With his decision to verbally commit to Army long behind him, the 6-foot-4, 200 pound McBryde just concentrated on one thing - enjoying his time with his future teammates and coaches, but his time on campus also served as a confirmation of his decision.
The Killeen (Tx) C.E. Ellison High School prospect had already had a taste of West Point when he made his way North for an unofficial visit during the summer, but this time around .... everything came together.
"My visit (official) was great ... I had good time with my host, Thomas Holloway ," shares the USMAPS bound McBryde. "He's a great guy and he exemplifies what a West Point player should be. I also spoke with Coach Ellerson and had great conversation. We talked about what it was to be an Army football player and spent more time talking about West Point ... I had a really good trip and I can't wait to get there."
Although McBryde is a solid commit, the staff has done a great job in maintaining consistent communication with the future Black Knight.
"I spoke to Coach Mumford yesterday," says McBryde when referring to Army's defensive tackle coach who has been handling his recruiting from day one. "He was down in this area recruiting and he stopped by my school. We talked about the Army-Navy game, we talked football for a little be and he talked to my coaching staff at my school."
Speaking of the Army-Navy game ... McBryde said that he was able to watch last Saturday's contest from a different view point and that is one where he will soon be wearing the Black & Gold, as well as having an alliance with current members of the team like host, Thomas Holloway. "My dad and I were watching the whole game and saw Thomas out there making some plays," says McBryde, as chuckled about watching his player-host in action.
For the time being, McBryde says that he will be working delingently to get bigger, faster and stronger. "I hope to be 210 in a few weeks, because I'm starting to work out now." he adds, as he talks about where he may fit into Army's defensive schemes.
"Coach Mumford said they see me kind of like an outside linebacker - safety mix, because their defensive schemes are a little bit difference. More like a hybrid linebacker-safety. When I was on my official visit, I had a chance to chat with the safety coach."
McBryde chose Army over offers from Air Force and Rice.
