2012 Position Breakdown: Linebackers
|Linebackers: Review, grade and 2012 season preview |
| ||Florida State finished second in the nation in run defense allowing just 82.69 yards per game on the ground. The Seminole linebackers played a big part in stuffing the run. |
Nigel Bradham 86 tackles, 9.5 for loss, 2 sacks, 2 interceptions.
Christian Jones 66 tackles, 6 for loss, and 3 sacks.
Vince Williams 55 tackles, 5 for loss, 2sacks, and 1 interception.
Telvin Smith 42 tackles, 8.5 for loss, 3 sacks, and 1 interception.
Jeff Luc 15 tackles and 2 for loss.
|The 2011 Florida State linebackers were part of front seven that helped propel a defense that finished fourth in the nation in total defense. Only Alabama's national championship defense allowed fewer yards per game on the ground. Senior outside linebacker Nigel Bradham was the defense's unquestioned leader as he lead the team in tackles for a third straight season. FSU linebackers racked up 31 tackles for loss and accounted for seven turnovers (4 forced fumbles and three interceptions) in 2011. |

| Replacing Nigel Bradham will be no easy task for Greg Hudson and the defensive coaches. Vince Williams and Telvin Smith both showed flashes during 2011 and I think the coaches have to find a way to get Smith onto the field more to help fill the void left by Bradham. If that means moving him back outside then so be it, but I think Williams and Smith are the two best play-makers FSU has at the position. Jeff Luc's lack of playing time during his sophomore season is concerning because you would imagine with the lack of linebacker depth he will be a guy who is counted on heavily in 2012. |
