MANSFIELD, Texas - The Tigers have become a program that produces FBS talent year in and year out. Oklahoma has benefited from that talent in years past when they signed Adrian Taylor in the class of 2006. Last year the Tigers' top prospect Hassan Ridgeway, a four-star defensive end, signed with the Texas Longhorns.
For the 2013 class Mansfield has three prospects who hold multiple offers in George Baltimore, Zachary Crabtree and Chad Whitener. Recentlyy SoonerScoop.com decided to head out and see what each was all about during a spring practice.
Baltimore, is a bit smaller than his listed size and looks to be closer to 5-foot-10 and said he is currently at 195-pounds. The skilled defender is one of the leaders of the team often telling younger teammates what they needed to be doing. The most noticeable thing about hist tutelage was it didn't seem to matter what position they were playing, Baltimore knew what every defender was supposed to be doing. Baltimore spent some time at corner during team drills with the scout team defense and didn't look totally out of place while jamming receivers at the line of scrimmage.
The Nations No. 24 ranked safety has over 15-offers and says at the moment that Arkansas, Baylor and Oklahoma State are standing out the most. Baltimore attended one of the Sooners junior days and reiterated multiple times how much he loved his time in Norman.Baltimore said that if the Sooners offer that they would shake up his top teams and may even be his choice.
On the other hand, the physical safety said that if he did not receive an Oklahoma offer he would the summer camp this weekend.
Crabtree, a 6-foot-7 and 260-pound three-star offensive tackle definitely has the height to play the position at the next level. Crabtree said he is currently 270-pounds but it is obvious that he has not even begun to tap into his potential in the weight room and has plenty of room to add another 30-pounds to his frame. Technically, Crabtree is still a work in progress. On one play his footwork was a little off because of that it allowed a smaller player to put Crabtree on his back.
Crabtree, one one particular play, displayed the type of mean streak that the Oklahoma State staff will be excited about. On the play the quarterback rolled out of the pocket and Crabtree peeled back laying a good block on a backside rusher. Crabtree is athletic and showed impressive ability getting to the second level and even wowed some of his teammates with his speed running down field during a long run. There were few prospects who had a bigger May than Crabtree with offers coming in from coast to coast and it was easy to understand the intrigue.
Whitener, a 6-foot-1 and 235-pound three-star linebacker is impressive looking on the hoof and appears to be the most college ready out of the three physically at this time but due to the schedule breakdown of the practice SoonerScoop.com wasn't able to get as lengthy a look at the California commitment.
