Barnett brings size, nonstop motor to D-line
Calvin Barnett has given Oklahoma State something they haven't necessarily had in awhile.
A force in the middle.
With the "pass-first, pass-second" style of play in the Big 12, top-tier defensive lineman haven't necessarily fallen under the "must-have" category for recruiting coaches. Sure, Oklahoma State has had some good ones at the position, but the mass of those top prospects at defensive tackle set their sights on the SEC and the SEC only.
Somehow, coach Mike Gundy and defensive coordinator Bill Young pulled Barnett, an SEC-quality tackle from the Junior College ranks, and he's already been a huge positive for the team.
"Not only is he bigger and powerful, but he makes everyone on the line better," Young said. "He has that motor that every coach wants his player to have, and sometimes that can get him into trouble but the positives heavily outnumber the negatives."
