THE TIGERS TALK: On New Mexico State
AUBURN -- In almost another other year in the history of Auburn football, this would be perhaps the most boring week of the season.
This isn't a normal season.
The Tigers will be auditioning their third starting quarterback of the season in Jonathan Wallace. And then there's the pesky issue of the team being mired in a five-game losing streak.
New Mexico State (1-7) has performed below expectations as well and is stuck in a seven-game rut. Someone will leave the stadium Saturday in a better mood.
Here's what Auburn is saying about that task:
SCOT LOEFFLER on NMSU's defense: "They are extremely disciplined. Similar to Vanderbilt in terms of not doing a lot on first and second down. Vanderbilt did a ton on third down. They had a great third-down package. First and second down, we're going to know what they're in. Technique-sound team that bases their whole productive not on scheme but on fundamentals and techniques."
GENE CHIZIK on his team's situation: "We've got four games left and we have great opportunities out there. I can assure you that we are going to work every day to try to get a win this week and then try to get a win the next week and so on and so forth. But it's big. The medicine and the remedy for being in a position like this is really only one thing -- winning. I think it is very critical that we practice well and we prepare and we go out there and we get one Saturday."
