GAINESVILLE, FL--For so many years, the Missouri offense lit up scoreboards and hauled porous defenses on its back to bowl games. In a 14-7 loss to Florida on Saturday, the role reversal hit a crystal-clear completion.
Time after time, the Missouri defense stonewalled Florida. The Gators came into Saturday's game ranked 100th in the nation in total offense, averaging a shade under 340 yards per game. Missouri held Florida to 64 fewer than that, 276 total yards and 11 first downs on 55 plays.
After the game, Missouri's best defensive player summed up the frustration of watching six consecutive offensive drives hit Florida territory without the Tigers scoring a single point.
