Coach: There's not a throw Speight can't make
When Richmond (Va.) Collegiate School junior Wilton Speight committed to Michigan just over a week ago, Wolverine fans weren't sure what to think. He was Al Borges' first choice (and only offer) at the position, but other - more highly rated - options were on the board, as well. According to Speight's quarterback coach, Steve Clarkson, the worrying is for naught.
"His arm is every bit as strong as [Pittsburgh Steelers Pro-Bowler] Ben Roethlisberger, and I've worked with Ben," Clarkson said. "He's not Cam Newton-strong, but he's plenty strong. There's not a throw he can't make, his deep ball can probably go 75-80 yards with just the snap of his wrist. He spins the ball very well."
