Spring Notebook: Reed feels the rain
Kyle Reed might just have the toughest task on the Berkeley campus right now.
A redshirt freshman, Reed is one of four quarterbacks competing for the top honor to lead the Cal football team when the 2006 season rolls around in September.
Holding the dubious honor as the only candidate of the four to not have seen any real playing time on the field yet, Reed knows he needs to handle his business, and it starts right now in spring ball.
In the midst of an offensive set in the middle of Friday's rain-driven practice, Reed walked into the huddle with his eyes down on the play sheet on his right forearm. The Oakland, Calif., native shouted out the play to his teammates, and scurred up to the line of scrimmage.
"Reeeady," Reed bellowed. "Set, hut!" Standing in the shotgun spread, Reed caught the ball, looked down the middle of the field, and quickly turned his attention to the left sideline.
