Washington finally in a position to start at CU?
BOULDER, Colo. -- Lorenzo Sims' move to safety and Gerett Burl's two week spring suspension gave Terry Washington a golden opportunity to impress the new coaching staff. And he did just that.
The 5-foot-11, 185-pound senior-to-be has been running with the first-team defense, along with Terrence Wheatley.
"Playing cornerback in this defense is a little easier," he explained. "We have a lot more coverages but last year's defense involved too much thinking. As long as we get our assignments done and make plays, [defensive backs] coach [Greg] Brown is happy."
Washington originally signed with the Buffs as a running back prospect in 2003 but academics issues sent him packing to Garden City Community College instead. The Broncbusters' already had a JUCO All-American at running back, thus Washington's career as a cornerback began.
"It was a long development," he recalls. "It's not the easiest position on the field. In fact, it might be the hardest. It was pretty hard, but I'm a quick learner and I adapted."
