Clemson has emerged as a player for one of the Northeast's top overall prospects regardless of position.
Williamsville, N.Y., North tight end Rob Gronkowski said Monday night the Tigers were now running in his lead group, along with Arizona, Maryland, Florida, Boston College and Syracuse.
Gronkowski has offers from Florida, Maryland, Clemson, Arizona, Syracuse, Boston College, Penn State, Michigan State, Ole Miss and Pittsburgh.
"Florida just offered a couple of days ago. Michigan State and Ole Miss offered not too long ago," Gronkowski said. "So far this year I've been to a few schools unofficially - Florida, Syracuse, Duke, Arizona, Maryland and Buffalo. Buffalo is right here close to home."
The Williamsville, N.Y., star will attend the State College, Pa., NIKE Camp later this spring, and this summer he will likely attend the Maryland Camp.
The Terrapins do text-message frequently, along with Notre Dame, Michigan State and Clemson.
Following the spring evaluation period, Gronkowski wants to narrow his list to four schools. And he knows what he's looking for.
"I really want to get it down to four schools then focus on them during the season and see how they use their tight ends," he said. "I want to see how many tight ends they use and if they throw the ball to them. Is it one tight end used or is it two or three? I want to see that. Also, their Business school has to be ranked in the top 20."
