USC lands another gunslinger
Rick Kimbrel
Rivals.com Football Recruiting The USC Trojans wanted to land two quarterbacks for the class of 2007 and by getting oral commitments from Aaron Corp (6-4, 195, 4.6) from Orange (Calif.) Lutheran and Samson Szakacsy (6-4, 195, 3.6) from Camarillo, Calif., they may have in a 24-hour period obtained the best quarterback class in the nation.
Szakacsy proved his competitive spirit by committing to USC just after Corp.
"Samson knew that USC wanted to sign two quarterbacks and he knew Aaron Corp had already committed to the Trojans and he supports that," Doug Szakacsy, Samson's Dad said. "He is looking forward to competing for the job."
The main reason that Szakacsy chose the Trojans is because he wants to win a championship and the opportunity to win one at USC presents itself more there than at most any other school.
Szakacsy had written offers from Stanford, Rutgers, Ole Miss, Purdue and Illinois. He had verbal offers from Colorado State, UNLV and Cal. As a matter of fact Cal called the night before Szakacsy committed to USC.
Szakacsy convinced USC head coach Pete Carroll and quarterback coach Steve Sarkisian with an outstanding workout last week. As a matter of fact, Carroll made Szakacsy feel that he had a chance to come in and compete for playing time early in his career.
"When Samson committed to Coach Carroll, he asked Samson if he knew what he did during his workout," Doug Szakacsy, Samson's Dad said. "He went on to say, 'I just saw Matt Leinart work out for the NFL and he nine incompletes. You under virtually the same conditions were 51 for 51.' He told Samson that hasn't seen that kind of accuracy or spin on the ball."
Another reason that Szakacsy chose USC it will allow him to stay close to home and his tight-knit family. Besides being close to his parents, he's very close to his grandparents.
