Spievey ready to work
One of the biggest sleepers in Iowa's 2006 recruiting class could be Connecticut defensive back Amari Spievey. The 6-foot-0, 175-pound Spievey put up huge numbers in leading Middletown Xavier to a state championship last year, but only saw three major scholarship offers when it came down to the recruiting process. The future Hawkeye, who will play cornerback in college, talks about his upcoming freshman year and much more.
Q: How did your last semester of high school wrap up?
SPIEVEY: It was pretty good. We graduated last week.
Q: How was your basketball season this year?
SPIEVEY: Pretty good. My ankle was a little messed up, so I missed some games, but I came back and we made it to the state semifinals.
Q: Have you been doing the Iowa workout program the last couple months?
SPIEVEY: Yeah, it's gone pretty good. I've just been lifting and running a lot.
Q: When are you heading to Iowa City?
SPIEVEY: I'm going to be there by August 1st.
Q: What do you look forward to in your first year of college football?
SPIEVEY: I just want to work hard and have a lot of fun, then see where I fit in and everything.
