Linebacker Chris Donald of Huntingdon, Tenn., grew up dreaming of playing his college football in-state, dressed in orange and white. But recently shades of blue and gold have been on Donald's mind.

"(Notre Dame) called last week and told me they were sending an offer," Donald said. "I was very excited. It's going to make me think about where I really want to be. Notre Dame and Tennessee are about even right now."

The Irish have picked up their recent recruiting efforts with the 6-foot-2, 220-pound linebacker.

"I've talked with the head coach and my recruiting coordinator, Rick Minter, a bunch," he said. "They talked about what kind of school Notre Dame was and how it would help me in life and in football."
