WR signee still waiting for academic clearance
Hurricanes WR signee Sam Shields, a Sarasota native, is in Miami.
But he's not officially a University of Miami student.
He says he is the only freshman signee still waiting to enroll in summer school.
"I'm the only one not because my papers got delayed, they said," Shields said. "They said it's normal, that it's nothing to worry about."
Shields says he is a full qualifier after raising a 15 ACT score to a 20 in his last test.
"They're waiting for that score to go through the (NCAA) Clearinghouse," he said.
In the meantime, Shields has spent some time working out at UM with his fellow freshmen.
"It's going well," he said. "The Miami program is very tough. It's not like high school anymore."
