Vegas Wrap-Up Report
Mike Pegram
Peegs.com Tuesday action in Las Vegas started with another gander at 6-foot-10, 245-pound Ayodele Coker , a Nigerian who moved to New York and South Kent Prep school less than a year ago. Coker played in Las Vegas with the Albany City Rocks squad, a Nike sponsored group that played in The Main Event.
Coker is fairly raw and told us later that he has only been playing organized basketball for a couple years. Known as "Dele"--- the Nigerian is a great athlete for his size and seemed to strictly get his point on the block despite showing decent shot form from the line and in pre-game warm-ups.
Just like at the Nike Camp, Dele was not scoring a lot of points or getting a ton of touches but looking good when he did get the ball. A player with a tremendous amount of potential but may need a year or two of college coaching seasoning to be ready for high major play.
Coker sounded very serious about Indiana and indicated it is a place he will definitely visit. He talked about the basketball tradition in Bloomington and that geography of where he goes is not a big deal since he is new to the USA.
St. John's will likely provide the biggest competition to Indiana here and Johnnies head coach Norm Roberts was a fixture at the Albany City games this week.
