Notebook 8/2: Powers stepping up at corner
Injuries and a redshirt kept Jerraud Powers on the sidelines last season. But if Powers has his way, that's about to change as he begins his second fall on the Plains.
"I'm just praying every day I stay healthy," said Powers. "I'm excited to be out here competing with a chance to be in the playing rotation. I'm going to continue to work hard."
Powers missed much of last fall with a foot injury and played through pain and soreness during spring practice. But the 5-foot-9, 177-pounder was moving around much better during Wednesday's first preseason practice.
It really showed a during 7-on-7 skele drill when Powers stepped in front of a Brandon Cox pass for an interception and returned it for a would-be touchdown.
