Maturation prepares Bowen for success
With a number of starters graduating off last year's Iowa State defense, the focus this fall will be on the next generation of athletes moving up to fill their spots.
One of the key promotions will go to weak side linebacker (or WILL) Alvin Bowen, who showed glimpses of the kind of impact player he can be while playing in every game last year as a reserve.
But "Ace," as he's known to his teammates, went through a humbling phase last season as a sophomore transfer from Garden City Community College in Kansas. Turns out it's not so easy at the Big 12 level.
"It's a big difference," said Bowen.
"I came here last year with an immature head. I felt like I should just be able to come here and start. What I was missing was I wasn't in my playbook enough. That's what I am doing this year."
