Receivers show up in first scrimmage
Saturday was the perfect day to play football at Reser Stadium. Just ask the
couple hundred fans that attended OSU's first scrimmage of fall camp. There was plenty of sunshine and a nice breeze which made for relaxing atmosphere.
The Beaver football squad must have taken notice.
Smiles were widespread among the players and coaches during warm-ups. And nobody seemed to be having a better time than wide receiver Ruben Jackson.
For someone who is on the bubble academically, Jackson was surprisingly upbeat.
He burst into fits of laughter while playing catch with receivers coach Lee Hull and fellow wideouts Shane Morales and Brandon Powers. It was refreshing to see that his teammates are still by his side and the coaches are still helping him out. Hopefully, it's a sign that Jackson is on the verge of qualifying.
But it was Morales who had the biggest reason to smile after the scrimmage.
Despite playing with the second string offense, he was the offensive standout of the day. The newly-arrived JUCO transfer had a game-high four catches and 65 yards receiving. While he didn't burn anyone, he ran crisp routes and displayed outstanding hands. Sort of like a guy named Mike Hass does. Keep an eye on Morales. He might not stay on the second string offense for long.
