Johnson pleased with offense on Tuesday
Vanderbilt Coach Bobby Johnson watched his team through a two and one-half hour practice on Tuesday night in which the offense got the better of the defense in scrimmage conditions. Johnson commented on the scrimmage, the depth at tailback, and the true freshmen who might possibly help his team this fall. VandySports.com brings you Johnson's complete comments from Tuesday evening.
On Jared Hawkins and the offense:
"He ran well. We had some good blocking in there. We were more aggressive on offense, and I liked that. The defense has been a little bit ahead, I think, but they stepped up.
How were they aggressive on offense?
"Just execution, I think. We were a little more forceful. We were stronger on our blocks, and held our blocks a little bit longer, and that gave our guys a chance to execute. We've got some good players. If we give them a chance to execute, they're going to have a chance."
On Cassen Jackson-Garrison, out with an appendectomy:
"He was released from the hospital, and everything's looking good. It'll be just day-to-day stuff. I think they're hoping he can even start running by the end of the week, which, to me, is almost a miracle."
