Austin fights the odds each day
The pain he still feels every day out on the football field is something Greg Austin has learned to live with.
Nebraska's most-experienced offensive lineman is still nagged by the lingering impact of a career-threatening knee injury that occurred during his first year in a Husker uniform, but Austin is determined not to let the pain get in the way of his final season at NU.
"I really put that (injury) behind me. It's not an excuse," Austin said following a recent workout at Memorial Stadium. "There's still a little bit (pain), but it's nothing insurmountable."
As a true freshman in 2003, Austin had already worked his way into the rotation of Nebraska's offensive line when he injured his knee late in the season against Kansas. He bounced back in 2004, playing in all 11 games as a backup guard. As a junior in 2005, he played in all 12 Husker games, starting the first 10.
