NU Notes: McCarney news hits close to home
The news on Wednesday that Iowa State's Dan McCarney will resign as the Cyclones head coach hit particularly close to home to Nebraska head coach Bill Callahan and offensive coordinator Jay Norvell.
Callahan worked with McCarney at Wisconsin under former head coach Barry Alvarez and Norvell worked with McCarney in Madison and also worked with him in Ames as his Assistant Head coach and wide receivers coach from 1995-1997.
When Callahan was asked to give his reaction about the news on McCarney it was the first he had heard of it and it came as a complete shock to him.
"I didn't hear that and that's really unfortunate," Callahan said. "I certainly think he's an outstanding coach and person and I've got a lot of respect for (McCarney). He's a great guy. He's a great head coach and a great person. If that's true that's a real loss in my opinion."
