When Dravannti Johnson looks at his recruitment, he's likely going to find that before he can answer the important question about his future college destination, he's going to need to answer the one about his future college position first.

The 6-2, 218-pound Johnson is a tweener in the classic sense of the word. While he plays with his hand on the ground at Nederland High, there's split opinions on which position he'll eventually play at the next level.

Some see Johnson as a potential sideline-to-sideline outside linebacker, while other see him as a young man that has the frame to grow into a pass-rushing defensive end. About the only thing certain at this point is Johnson's position n the subject.

"Outside linebacker," Johnson replied when asked about his preference. "I want to be a player that makes plays all over the field and I think that's the kind of player I can be. Oklahoma State and Texas Tech have talked about me being a pass rusher, but I think I'm at my best at linebacker."

For Texas fans, it'll be interesting to see how the Longhorns coaching staff views Johnson because they've had mixed results with similar prospects. While Robert Killebrew has been a solid player for them, the staff hasn't always had a lot of success in trying to spin players up from defensive linemen to college linebackers.

When you factor in that the Longhorns also don't have a true defensive coordinator or a linebacker's coach at the moment, it's likely that a final decision on Johnson won't be made for a while.

"I've known coach (Oscar) Giles for a long time," Johnson, who has offers from Texas A&M, Oklahoma State and Baylor, said. "I sent film in the last couple of days. I'm anticipating being pretty heavily recruited, but he told me that they don't really start looking at 2008 until they finish up with 2007. He said that he would text message me."

With Texas A&M emerging as an early leader for Johnson, what would an offer from Texas do to his recruiting landscape?

"I would definitely look at them," Johnson said. "If Texas offers, I definitely be interested, but it's not like they would move right to the top. I'm looking to get on the field and if I can't get on the field early, then that would have an impact."

As far as other dynamics to his recruitment, Johnson said that outside of early playing time, he's not looking for a lot of whistles and bells.

"Distance is not really an issue," Johnson said. "I want to get a good education, I want to play for a winning school and I want to get some early playing time. A good school and a good team - that's what I'm looking for."
